    Haiku
    Busy little bird
    Free to soar above the noise
    How I envy you

    dark stories
    She was not built to remain here for long;
    Her heart was too fragile, her mind too gone.
    Life in rich color, though she could not see;
    Grueling, the stretch between each morning dawn.

    She loved too deeply and could never bare,
    Looming loss she knew would always be there.
    Darkness inside her they would surely see;
    In time, exhaustion would replace their care.

    No blame was upon them, for this she knew,
    She was drowning in the exhaustion too.
    With that she accepted all fault and blame,
    Leaving with love in her heart for the few.

    She yearned for rest underneath the barrow,
    A place of no worry, strife, or sorrow.
    Truth she could face with sadness, yet relief,
    To know there will come now no tomorrow.

    A place of no worry, strife, or sorrow,
    And so there will come now no tomorrow.

  • The Sea

    March 13, 2024
    reflection
    My thoughts drift away
    Onto the salty breeze,
    A melodic verse
    Of memories past,
    Given away
    To the sea, to the sea;
    Let her take
    My heart at last.

    The waves crash and roll,
    Softly embracing the shore.
    Barely a caress,
    Then coaxed back again,
    To the deep, to the deep
    And vast expanse
    Of the sea, of the sea;
    All is new and forgiven.

    I gaze upon her,
    Blue eyes spilling all my secrets.
    Relief washes over me,
    Like water over sand.
    And for now I am one
    With the sea, with the sea;
    Bound not by the past,
    Bound not to the land.

    grit
    Battlefield’s dirty, decay and regret.
    My body weakened, but my spirit strong.
    Let fall the angry tears on dirt and sweat.
    War paint dripping, ripping; my pain, my song.

    Carry on, move along; dark are the days.
    Enemy growls, sharp teeth, edges jagged.
    Gnawing, biting; my fire still ablaze.
    Gnawing and biting, but I’m not yet dead.

    The battlefield’s dirty; decay, regret.
    Gather my strength, there is fight in me still.
    Deep breaths, clear thoughts, there is fight in me yet.
    Bloody waters never to drown my will.

    My chest out, head up, fists clenched, eyes steady.
    I fear no pain, no death; I stand ready.
